Can medical tattooing be used to cover dark coloured scars?

Is medical tattooing good for dark coloured scars?

Yes, medical tattooing can be used to camouflage dark coloured scars, however, it does take many sessions and there is the potential for the ink to change colour and look chalky over time.

We have to think about what is causing the dark coloured scarring, whether it be hyperpigmentation or a birth mark.

Some scars may not benefit from this treatment and I would always be honest and tell you this if I think it would amke the appearance of your scar worse.

I would always recommend you try laser therapy first, to lighten the scar and then have medical tattooing to blend it in with the surrounding skin tone.

To lighten a scar with medical tattooing, I would use a specialised layering technique to apply pigments to lighten the area first before layering up the target skin colour that we want to finish with.
